Looking at the original space, it reminds me of our first house. We had a laundry closet, and I remember wanting it to feel like a designated space while still being functional. This person said that this laundry closet was right off of their kitchen and that they were open to removing the existing cabinets because they were too tall to really be functional.
When we’re working with small spaces it’s really important to maximize every inch of space possible. What I would do in this space is, remove the old cabinetry to open up the space. Then you would have room to add a coffee bar, or whatever you want to use the extra countertop space for! Then I would add custom fluted glass doors that have a hidden sliding mechanism so that they doors can be pushed into the closet when they’re open and they’re not impeding the space. Since the washer is a top load, you can’t have a countertop over the machines, so instead I would add a floating shelf to store all of your laundry items and then an additional shelf with a rod to hang dry clothes. Using storage bins is a great way to hide away things that would visually clutter the space. Painting the cabinets to match the kitchen would feel cohesive, but I also think it is fun to have a pop of color to make the space stand out. Adding vertical shiplap or bead board to the back wall helps draw the eye up and plays off of the texture of the fluted glass on the closet doors. Warmth elements like gold hardware, wood shelves, and wicker baskets really ties the space together. There are so many great ways to maximize your space with a laundry closet, I’ll add some inspo pictures for you here.
