If your kids share a bedroom and you’re not really sure what to do with it, follow these tips to maximize the space!

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

Looking at this space, we can see that the beds are taking up the majority of the room. So if it were me, I would do a bunk bed so that we can maximize the floor space (and what little kid doesn’t love a bunk bed?!) I would place the bunkbed on the wall furthest from the window so that you’re not blocking any natural light from coming in. Then the next thing I would address is the ledge along the wall, I think it’s great for storage, but visually it juts out into the room and makes it feel smaller. I would add board and batten up to the ledge and wallpaper above the ledge to make the walls a statement and blend that ledge in a little bit so you’re not noticing it as much.

When I look at this room right now it doesn’t feel very cozy, so to add some warmth I would do some wood elements with the bunk beds and wall hooks, mirroring that warm tone with the leather bean bag chair, gold in the light fixtures, and yellow in the wallpaper pattern. Then to further tie the wallpaper into the space, I would disperse the plaid pattern throughout the room with the area rug, wire laundry basket, and metal bookshelf baskets on the wall. The navy and green tones in the wallpaper, navy bedding, black light fixtures, and keeping the same dark carpet will add a masculine color palette to the room and really make it feel like a boys room.
