Vaulted ceilings are beautiful because they add height to the space, but sometimes they can make it hard to design the room to feel cozy and inviting. Especially in a bedroom, you want to warmth and coziness and not an empty vastness that you can sometimes feel with vaulted ceilings.
When I look at this room the first thing I notice is there’s a lot of grey. The vaulted ceiling and monotone color palette are making this room feel very big and empty. The second thing I notice is the asymmetrical balance with the ceiling fan, bed, and pitch in the ceiling.
To help draw the eye further into the room and away from the ceiling, I would do a dark moody accent wall with shiplap for texture. Then I would add a beam to the ceiling, I think it would be a really pretty accent at the top of the ceiling and add some warmth to the space. Playing off the wood tone of the ceiling beam, I would add a lot of wood elements to this room with dressers, nightstands, ceiling fan, and a bench at the end of the bed. Even adding that same color with the throw blanket on the bed, just to really warm up the space.
Then to balance the room I would move the bed more towards the center of the room and move the ceiling fan up closer to the middle of the ceiling so that everything feels a little more centered. Because the ceiling is asymmetrical, you can’t put the bed directly under the tallest point of the ceiling, so to trick the eye I would put matching nightstands and mirrors on either side of the bed so that the room feels more balanced.
When I look at the wall with the windows, I see a lot of wasted space. It looks like there’s not really enough room to add art, so I would make the windows a feature by building a bench seat with bookshelves on either side. Doing a built in would add so much character and visual interest to that wall. Even if you don’t do a full built in DIY, I would definitely trim out the windows, I feel like when you don’t have trim it feels very boring. Adding trim makes the windows feel so much grander and more elegant.
