This room is STUNNING. There’s tons of potential to use this space for seating, entertaining, and hosting all while being kid-friendly.
The bones are great– the high ceilings and large picturesque windows are absolutely beautiful so we want to highlight those features to really make them pop. The first thing I would do is add a soft, warm paint color, like this green, to add some warmth and dimension that feels modern and mature with adult- friendly vibes. Then I would add a wood planks to the ceiling to add some visual interest and texture .
Adding a large, moody area rug that ties in the black window frames adds a lot of contemporary and modern elements to the space especially when paired with some dark heavy curtains. Because the windows are so large, there’s only a small amount of wall space left, not really enough to add any pictures or artwork, but enough to make the walls feel bare. So by adding the curtains in the corners and filling in that empty space, the room feels cozier and more inviting.
For furniture, I would do a sofa with an accent chair to create a welcoming conversation area. Then I would add a small kid’s table for kids to color or do crafts at that is lightweight and easy to move around so you can move it if the kids want to play on the floor. Every multi-purpose room should have a piece of furniture with a storage element, so I added this bench under the window that can be used for extra seating and store bins for kid’s toys, etc. Adding a multi-functional furniture piece to the room adds a ton of flexibility to the space.
Then finishing the space by adding lots of warmth and texture with throw pillows and blankets, greenery, and wood accents. I added extra lighting with a floor lamp and of course we can’t forget to add a dog bed for their adorable pup!
