Sharing my favorite tips to help define any space by adding warmth and texture!

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

Open concept designs are great for many reasons, but they can make it challenging to define a space. This dining room, for example, was located right next to the foyer and shared a wall that vaulted into the living room. The color palette was primarily shades of gray and black, with the table and chairs almost blending into the floors.

I really like the dark accent wall to draw your eye further into the space, I would just replace it with this patterned wallpaper that incorporates both the cool colors of the floor and walls, but also adds warmth and visual interest in it’s design. Adding an area rug helps define the space and make it feel more intentional. I chose a patterned rug that compliments the wallpaper and expands the color palette to incorporate more warmth. I would replace the table in chairs with wooden furniture, there’s a lot of cool tones in this space with the dark flooring and gray walls, so adding a wooden dining table and upholstered chairs adds a cozy element to the room. To modernize the space I would swap out the light fixture and add a picture gallery to the back wall. Finally, I added a faux tree with a tall vase to the corner to play off the texture of the wallpaper and rug and add some life to the space.
