How to decorate a blank space that you’re not sure how to work with!

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

This is a great blank canvas! Things that are not working in this space– the light… obviously, the wood tones of the floors and railing are clashing, and the large blank walls that feel very boring.

The detailing on the floor and the gooseneck railing are very strong character points in this room, so leaning into that I feel like we needed to add some sort of accent to the walls to make them feel more interesting. Doing a moody green paint color, like Billiard Green by Sherwin Williams plays really well with the wood tone of the floor and then I would refinish the railing to match the floors.

Replacing the existing light fixture with a ribbed glass pendant and gold accents brings in style and texture that suits the space beautifully.

For functionality, I included a console table, a small ottoman, and baskets—practical pieces that also feel intentional. Finishing touches like greenery and artwork help round out the look, turning this once blank foyer into a cozy, thoughtfully designed space.

This room is barely recognizable now with just a few simple cosmetic changes! Let me know what you think of this design in the comments on Instagram and follow along for weekly room transformations! You can shop the links for this space below or on my Amazon and LTK storefronts!
