One room, two boys—let’s turn this bare room into a shared space they will both enjoy.

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

Shared bedrooms are pretty common in many homes. The goal is to give each boy their own space while still making it feel cohesive.

The room is a decent size, but the existing navy paneling on the back wall tunnels you in a bit and competes with the window. So, I switched it up by adding wainscoting to all the walls, going a little over halfway up in a moody green color. This still gives the walls interest but feels more balanced in the room.

The window in this room is a great size, and adding curtains high and wide helps frame it. Placing the twin beds on each side of the window adds to that framing effect.

Decor-wise, adding an area rug—even over carpet—helps ground the space and brings in different textures and colors. I also swapped out the basic ceiling light for a modern fan/light. Add in fun swing lights for reading, sports décor, and bookshelves, and this room has really come together.

From a basic room to a shared bedroom any brothers would enjoy.
