Laundry rooms should be pretty too, so let’s take this laundry room and transform it into a well-designed space you wouldn’t mind folding towels in.

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

When first looking at this laundry room, I see some great features. There’s a beautiful window, a sink, some counter space, and it’s a good size overall. The layout feels a little off, though, and in the homeowner’s description she mentioned she can’t open her dryer door all the way. So let’s address that first.

I kept the washer and dryer hookups in the same location but removed the cabinets directly in front of the window. Not only was this a practical move, but now the window doesn’t feel so cramped. Since we did lose some counter space, I added a wood-tone counter on top of the washer and dryer, which can be a great solution for smaller laundry spaces.

Color drenching the walls and trim in this muddy plum shade elevates the space and pairs beautifully with the added wood and gold tones. I then incorporated wood slat panels behind the washer and dryer. Not only does this add visual interest, but it can also help soften the sound of the machines.

I wanted to give them a space to hang clothing, so I added a ceiling-mounted clothes rod in black that coordinates with the washer, dryer, and new faucet. Updating elements like the countertop, ceiling fixture, and window shade makes a big difference in this space. Finishing touches like a floating shelf, wall sconces, and some greenery truly turn this room into a space that might just make laundry enjoyable.
