Renovating a kitchen can be overwhelming and expensive. But working with the big-ticket items you already have can help you save money and make the update more manageable.
This kitchen feels very dark. With the light floors and dark cabinets, counters, and backsplash the space feels imbalanced. If we were to keep the cabinets, I’d recommend swapping out the countertops and backsplash for something lighter and warmer. The other thing that I notice that looks outdated is the stainless steel hood vent, so I would compliment the dark cabinets with black elements like a new black hood, black pendant lights, and bar stools. Adding some warmth to the space with gold elements like the cabinet hardware, pot filler, and faucet ties everything together!
An extremely budget friendly option would be to keep the existing countertops and paint the kitchen cabinets. I would paint the cabinets with a muddy beige color to tie in the floors. To tie in the black counters, I would do black hardware, black hood vent, and black pendant lights. If replacing the backsplash tile isn’t in the budget, you can find great peel and stick options online!
Looking at both options, I can’t decide which one I like better! If you could only pick one thing to update in your kitchen, would you change your cabinets or your counters?
