Spruce My Space: Open Concept Living Room Transformation

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

Open concept spaces can be really difficult when you’re trying to design them, so I like to think of them as two separate spaces. I recommend using items that share the same color palette so everything looks cohesive, while also making the spaces feel like their own designated area. Starting in the dining room, I would get a larger rug. I think the smaller one makes the room feel too tight. A larger rug would open up the space and make it feel more inviting. Swapping out the dining room table for something wood would help tie in wood elements throughout the space and adding black chairs would help balance the dark media cabinet in the living room. In the living room, I feel like the dark couch is too heavy, so I would swap it for something lighter to make the space feel brighter. Adding an area rug in the living room will help make the room feel separated while still tying both spaces together. It’s easy when you have a lot of windows to not be sure what to do on the walls, adding trim around the windows and tall curtains will help open up the room and make it feel bigger and more cohesive. Then to bring it all together, adding wood elements throughout the room brings balance also helps the space feel a little bit cozier.
