Spruce My Space: Vaulted Ceiling Living Room Transformation

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

I love vaulted ceilings in living rooms, but sometimes it can be difficult to keep it feeling bright and airy while still feeling grounded and cozy. It’s important when we look at a space as a whole that we are looking at the balance of the room. So, if we ignore the furniture and just look at the room, it’s a very symmetrical space. The way that the furniture is arranged in the before picture isn’t really balancing the two sides, you can see that the room is very heavy on the left side. By swapping the chair to the other side of the room, it helps ground the two heavier pieces of furniture. Then to help fill the wall space, I would add a third cabinet to fill the wall up more and draw your eye to the center of the room. I would add pictures and wall sconces on either side of the TV to help keep things really balanced and symmetrical. *Design Tip* Having a rug that is proportionate to the size of your room is extremely important to help tie the space together while also making it feel larger. To finish, I would add extra warmth and character to this space by adding shiplap to the ceiling and a beam in the case opening to match the one on the ceiling. Now when we step back to look at the space, our eye is automatically drawn to the center of the room and it feels grounded, cozy, and inviting!
