Where to start when you want to overhaul an entire space?
Let’s take this dated foyer and turn it into a styled, welcoming area that invites you into the home while keeping its original charm.

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

Spaces like this can feel overwhelming, there’s so much potential but it’s hard to know where to start. So, let’s begin from the ground up. The current flooring feels dated and visually divides the room. I’d replace it with hardwood or vinyl plank and carry it seamlessly through the entire space to create a cohesive flow. To add charm and depth, I’d install wainscoting for texture and paint both the walls and trim in a rich, moody green (like Sherwin William’s Jasper). The front door could either be refreshed with paint or replaced with a warm wood option featuring glass panels to invite in natural light. I’d keep the ceiling light to balance the darker tones and maintain a sense of openness.

For furnishings, I’d swap the existing display pieces for a glass-front hutch in a warm wood finish. A textured rug would add color and help ground the space, while a small bench for putting on shoes adds both function and comfort. Finishing touches like a statement piece of artwork or a gallery of family photos would make the entry feel personal and welcoming.

Now, when you step through the door, the space feels warm, updated, and full of character!
