A mismatched space is very common—sometimes it’s hard to know where to start or how to finish a room. So let’s take this dining room and turn it into a well-thought-out space!

Before & After: Virtual Rendering

This dining room has so much potential thanks to its generous size and a few existing pieces that already work beautifully. To start, I added character to the big blank wall with wide board and batten painted in a moody green. Then, I brought in a warm wood sideboard, a pair of charming table lamps, and a striking piece of artwork to anchor the space.

The dining table and matching bench are gorgeous—they’re definitely staying. The light fixture, while nice, felt a bit too modern, and the rug was undersized for the room. I swapped in a transitional chandelier for a softer look and layered in a larger rug that perfectly ties together the moody green and warm wood tones.

The existing upholstered chairs could still work—either by adding a few more or replacing them with new upholstered options featuring warm wood legs for better balance.

Finally, a few accessories and touches of greenery pull everything together. What was once a neglected, mismatched space now feels cohesive, inviting, and ready for countless family dinners.
