This room has several pieces we can definitely work with: the upholstered bed, the artwork above it—which has great colors to pull from—and the navy curtains. What’s tricky about this space, and a common issue for many, is that it feels off-balance with only one window on the back wall. So short of adding a second window, I’m going to show you a few ideas that create the illusion of balance.
Keeping the existing bed, I added a moody, deep-colored rug to ground the space and tie in the colors from the artwork. I swapped the cubbies for a warmer, more sophisticated dresser with coordinating nightstands. The navy curtains were a good start; I simply hung them higher and added a gold curtain rod. With the richly colored rug and the navy curtains, I kept the walls neutral, added crown molding, and drenched the ceiling and molding in a moody navy tone.
I have three options to help balance the window. The first option uses a large rectangular mirror on the nightstand to add height and visual lightness. The second option shifts the bed slightly and replaces the table lamp with a floor lamp. The third option moves the faux indoor tree next to the nightstand. Each option adds visual height, helping to counterbalance the window. Overall, any of these choices work, and the room now feels cozy and well-balanced.
