I love what they were trying to do with the wallpaper and paneling, but because the wallpaper is the same width as the bed frame, it’s making the room feel smaller than it actually is. If you wanted to keep both the wallpaper and the paneling, I would either widen the wallpaper section so it doesn’t feel so smooshed or change the layout so that the paneling is on the bottom half of the wall and the wallpaper is on top.
Alternative Option 1: Take the black slatwall all the way across. I think this looks very elegant and elevated. By having the dark focal point at the back of the room, you’re creating an optical illusion that elongates the room and makes it feel larger. The existing black metal bed frame would get lost against the black accent wall, so I would recommend swapping out your bed frame for and upholstered headboard that gives more of a contrast. The slatwall feels very sleek and modern so the upholstered headboard will add warmth and coziness to the space as well. Adding lots of layers and textures will also help create an inviting space and highlight the bed as the focal point of the room.

Alternative Option 2: Still keeping the slatwall to add texture and depth to the space, but instead of black I opted to color drenching the room with this beautiful mauve color (Cinnamon Slate by Sherwin Williams). This version feels more feminine and delicate and really allows the furniture to be the focal point of the room. The key to creating a room that feels really dynamic is to add a lot of layers. Starting with the slatwall, there’s a lot of texture and visual interest, then adding in substantial furniture that fits the space, and then finishing the space with an area rug, curtains, and bedding that all fit within the same color pallette but introduce lots of different patterns for that cozy, designer look.

I made sure to source really budget friendly furniture and decor for this space so it’s easy to replicate.
