How much does a staircase renovation really cost?

How much does a staircase renovation really cost? 🤔 Let me break it down for you! Could you DIY it? Absolutely, but I will warn you that I’ve heard from people who have done it that stairs are one of the most frustrating and difficult projects so I definitely wouldn’t say that it’s beginner friendly. If you have a straight railing, it can be a little bit more straightforward, but I’ve heard that the angles can be quite a challenge.

I’ve been dreaming about updating this since we moved into this house and so it was worth saving for and having it done professionally. They were able to get it done in about five days total where if I tried to do it myself it probably would’ve taken me three weeks and cost me all my sanity.

BREAKDOWN:
Materials, Demo & Install: $5,800
White Oak: +$2,000
White Oak End Caps: $1,400
Prime, Paint, Stain, Clear coat (hired out): $2,500
TOTAL COST: $11,700

I probably could’ve saved about half in labor costs if I was willing to do a lot of of it myself but with having young kids, I just wanted this project done as quickly as possible so that my staircase railings weren’t open and unsafe.
